ကၽြန္ေတာ္က သာ၀တၳိ အထက္တန္းေက်ာင္းက ဆယ္တန္းေအာင္ျမင္ခဲ့တဲ့ အင္းသာရြာသားတစ္ေယာက္ျဖစ္ပါတယ္။
သာ၀တၳိၿမိဳ႕ဆိုတဲ့ ဒီေပ့ခ်္ေလးကို ကိုယ့္ၿမိဳ႕ကိုယ့္ရြာသံေယာဇဥ္နဲ႕ ၀င္ထားၿပီး အၿမဲလည္း ၾကည့္ျဖစ္ပါတယ္။

Lesson from the National Day ???

Thanks to the Rangoon College students and the people of 1920 for uplifting national and patriotic spirit through the boycott of the Rangoon University Act. Moreover the establishment of a national college, schools, and national education council is also appreciable. It is said that the general public gave full support to the boycott.
.
The above history knowledge is taught at today's schools. But what is not taught is how and why the national college did not last long. Financial issue was the main cause of the national college disappearance.
.
Despite full support of the people, the national college disappeared. Was the people's support merely lip service? Could not the founders manage the college well enough?
.
What lessons should we teach ourselves and our descendants from the National Day event?

Foreign Banks

I really don’t know much about the banking industry. As soon as I saw this document, the 1997 financial crisis came into my mind. Thailand businesses got loans from the foreign banks and could not return it due to the financial collapse of the Thai baht. The bankruptcy of those businesses consequently triggered the crisis and it was not stopping domestically. It also affected the other emerging economies and even an economic giant Japan was not an exception.

Getting loans with low interest rate is really good for businesses.

Election Campaign and Union Ministers

. . . Should Myanmar Parliament enact a law to prohibit the elected officials from participating their mother party’s activities?

. . . The constitution bans some elected officials including the presidents, the union ministers, cabinet members, and members of some union level organizations not to participate the activities of the political parties especially the parties they came from. However, there is no law or code of conduct which clearly interprets the actions of the official deemed to be participating in the party’s activities. The lack of such law or code of conduct encourages the elected officials to cross the line banned by the constitution.

. . . There have been many criticisms of such actions committed by the ruling party NLD. The first one is a televised program conducted by the CEC members of the NLD broadcasted on a state-owned media just one day before the byelection 2017. The second one is the attendance of the two union ministers to the second party congress of the NLD. The opposition party group led by the USDP put their objection on the matters as violating the constitution. In spite of their official complaint, the election commission responsible for such actions of the political parties did not make any action and just released an announcement that the actions do not violate the constitution.

. . . For the time being, enacting such a law or drafting a set of code of conducts initiated by the election commission or elected MPs in the parliament could not be expected. Probably but almost impossible, the military MPs in both houses could fill this blank as they are also eligible for submitting a bill in the parliament.

. . . The State Counsellor who is serving as a union minister for two ministries also paid two visits to the Kachin and Chin States during the campaign period of the 2018 byelection. The election will be held on 3rd November to fill 13 parliamentary seats and two of them will come from the two states Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has recently visited.

. . . ဒီအသက္ဒီအရြယ္ ဘြဲ႕တစ္ခုရၿပီးမွ ေရာက္လာၾကတဲ့အထဲ လူတိုင္းနီးပါး သက္ဆိုင္သူေတြ အေ၀းမွာ က်န္ခဲ့ၾကတာခ်ည္းပဲ။ အိမ္ေထာင္ဘက္ျဖစ္ရင္ျဖစ္မယ္ ရည္းစားျဖစ္ရင္ျဖစ္မယ္ အီစီကလီ ျဖစ္ရင္ျဖစ္မယ္။ ကိုယ့္အိမ္ေထာင္ဘက္နဲ႕ ကိုယ့္ရည္းစားနဲ႕ ကိုယ့္အီစီကလီနဲ႕ ခ်စ္တဲ့အခါရွိမယ္ စိတ္ေကာက္တဲ့အခါရွိမယ္၊ ဒါေတြက ပုဂၢလိကကိစၥေတြျဖစ္လို႕ ဘာမွ စိတ္၀င္စားစရာမရွိ။ အဲ . ကိုယ့္ရည္းစားနဲ႕ကိုယ္ျဖစ္တဲ့ ျပသနာတစ္ခုက ကိုယ္လက္ရွိေနေနတဲ့ အသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္းကို ထိပါးလာၿပီဆိုရင္ေတာ့ စိတ္၀င္စားဖို႕လိုလာၿပီ။ ကိုယ္တိုင္လည္း ဒီအသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္းထဲက တစ္ေယာက္ပဲကိုး။ ဒါမ်ိဳးျဖစ္လာရင္ေတာ့ လက္ခံထိုက္မထိုက္ စဥ္းစားဖို႕ေကာင္းၿပီ

. . . ဒီေခတ္ဒီအခါ ဆိုရွယ္နက္၀ပ္ေတြ ေခတ္စားလာေတာ့ တစ္ခ်ိဳ႕ လင္မယားေတြ သမီးရည္းစားေတြ ကိုယ့္အေကာင့္ပတ္စ္၀ပ္ ကိုယ့္ရည္းစား အိမ္ေထာင္ဘက္ကို ေပးၾကသတဲ့။ ကိုယ့္အျမင္ေျပာရရင္ ဒါဟာ လူမွဳေရးက်င့္၀တ္ကို ေဖာက္ဖ်က္တာပဲ။ ဘယ္လိုမွ လက္သင့္ခံထိုက္တဲ့ ကိစၥ မဟုတ္ဘူး။ ကိုယ္တိုင္ အက္ဒမင္လုပ္ေနတဲ့ ကိုယ္တို႕အပတ္စဥ္ဂရုမွာ အဲဒါမ်ိဳး အေထာက္အထားေတြ႕လို႕ကေတာ့ လူသိရွင္ၾကား ေၾကညာၿပီး ဂရုက ထုတ္ပစ္လိုက္တာပဲ။ လူမွဳက်င့္၀တ္ကို နားလည္တဲ့ သူေတြအေနနဲ႕ အဲဒီလို အေရးယူလည္း ဘယ္ေကာင္မွ ေစာဒက မတက္ဘူး။ မတက္၀ံ့ဘူး။ တက္လို႕လည္း အသိုင္းအ၀ုိင္းကိုက ဒါမ်ိဳး လက္မခံဘူးေလ။ မသိေသးလို႕ ရွိေနတာမ်ိဳးဆိုရင္လည္း မတတ္နိုင္ဘူးေပါ့။ သိလို႕ကေတာ့ ခ်က္ခ်င္း ထုတ္ပစ္တာပဲ။

. . . တစ္ခ်ိဳ႕က ေျပာၾကမယ္။ ကိုယ့္ေဖ့ဘုတ္အေကာင့္ ကိုယ္ပိုင္တာပဲ၊ ကိုယ့္ဘာသာ ေပးခ်င္တဲ့သူေပးမယ္ေပါ့။ ကိုယ္က အဲဒါ လက္မခံဘူး မွားတယ္။ ခင္ဗ်ား ေဖ့ဘုတ္အေကာင့္ ခင္ဗ်ားတစ္ေယာက္တည္း ပိုင္တာ မဟုတ္ဘူး။ ခင္ဗ်ားနဲ႕ ႏွစ္ကိုယ္ၾကား စကားေျပာလို႕ရတဲ့ ခ်က္ေဘာက္ဆိုတာမွာ ခင္ဗ်ားကို ယံုၾကည္စိတ္ခ်လို႕ ခင္ဗ်ား မိတ္ေဆြ သူငယ္ခ်င္းေတြက တိုင္ပင္မယ္ ရင္ဖြင့္မယ္ ေဆြးေႏြးမယ္ ေမးမယ္ အတင္းေျပာမယ္ေပါ့ဗ်ာ ထားပါေတာ့၊။ အဲဒါေတြက ခင္ဗ်ားတစ္ေယာက္တည္းပဲ သိေစခ်င္တာေတြ ေျပာေနတာ၊ ခင္ဗ်ား ရည္းစား ခင္ဗ်ား အိမ္ေထာင္ဘက္ကို သိေစခ်င္တာ မဟုတ္ဘူး။ ဒီလိုမ်ိဳး ကိုယ့္ကို ယံုၾကည္စိတ္ခ်လို႕ ခင္လို႕မင္လို႕ ရင္းႏွီးလို႕ တိုင္ပင္တာ ရင္ဖြင့္တာ ေဆြးေႏြးတာ စတာေနာက္တာေတြ ရွိေနတဲ့ ခင္ဗ်ားရဲ႕ ခ်က္ေဘာက္ကို သူတစ္ပါးကို ၾကည့္ခြင့္ေပးလိုက္တဲ့အခါ ခင္ဗ်ားဟာ ကၽြန္ေတာ္နဲ႕ ခင္ဗ်ား ႏွစ္ေယာက္ၾကားက ေစာင့္စည္းရမယ့္ လူမွဳက်င့္၀တ္ကို ခ်ိဳးေဖာက္ရာ မက်ဘူးလား ။ ကၽြန္ေတာ္တို႕ ဒီလို ေစာင့္စည္းၾကပါမယ္လို႕ ဘယ္တုန္းက စာခ်ဳပ္ထားလို႕တုန္းလို႕ ့ ခင္ဗ်ားက ေမးေကာင္းေမးမယ္၊ ဟာ ေဟ့လူရ၊ လူက်င့္၀တ္ လူ႕ယဥ္ေက်းမွဳကို နားလည္တဲ့ ယဥ္ေက်းတဲ့ လူမွဳအသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္းမွာ ဒါေတြက ထုတ္ေျပာစရာမလိုဘဲ အလိုလို သိေနရမယ့္ လိုက္နာေစာင့္စည္းရမယ့္ က်င့္၀တ္ေတြဗ် လို႕ ကၽြန္ေတာ္က ျပန္ေျဖဖို႕ပဲရွိတယ္။

. . . အခုလည္း အသံေတြ ၾကားေနရတယ္။ ကိုယ္နဲ႕ကေတာ့ မပတ္သက္ပါဘူး။ သို႕ေသာ္လည္း ၾကားေနျမင္ေနရတာေတြက ကိုယ္မျမင္ခ်င္ Unfollow လုပ္ထားလို႕ ရတယ္ဆိုေပမယ့္ ကိုယ့္အသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္းကိုပါ ထိပါးမယ့္ အေျခအေနေတြကို သမိုင္းသင္ခန္းစာေတြအရ ႀကိဳျမင္ေနရတာမို႕ မျမင္ခ်င္ေယာင္ေဆာင္မေနႏိုင္ဘဲ ဒီစာကို ေရးရတာ။ ေျပာခ်င္တာႏွစ္ခ်က္ရွိတယ္

(၁) ကာယကံရွင္ကလည္း ကိုယ့္ျပသနာကို ကိုယ့္အသိုင္းအ၀ိုင္းရဲ႕ ျပသနာအျဖစ္မေရာက္ေအာင္ (အထက္ကေျပာခဲ့တဲ့ လူမွဳက်င့္၀တ္ေတြ) ေစာင့္ထိန္းေပးပါ။
(၂) အဲသည္ ျပသနာျဖစ္ဖြယ္ရွိတဲ့သူကို က်န္တဲ့သူေတြက သတိထားၿပီး (အထူးသျဖင့္ အြန္လိုင္းေပၚက ကိစၥေတြ ေနာက္ဆံုး ဓာတ္ပံုထဲ အတူတူပါသြားတာမ်ိဳးဆိုတဲ့ ကိစၥမ်ိဳးအထိ ) တတ္ႏိုင္သမွ် ကင္းကင္းရွင္းရွင္း ေနၿပီး ကိုယ္က သူတို႕ ျပသနာထဲ မပါေအာင္ ေရွာင္ႏိုင္သမွ် ေရွာင္ၾကပါ။

. . . ကၽြန္ေတာ္တို႕ေက်ာင္းကေန တစ္နာရီေက်ာ္ေလာက္ ကားေမာင္းသြားရင္ ေရာက္တဲ့ ဒီဆည္ႀကီးက အခုလို ေဆာင္းဦးရြက္ေၾကြ သစ္ရြက္ေတြ အေရာင္ေျပာင္းတဲ့အခ်ိန္မွာ သိပ္လွေပါ့။ ဆည္ႀကီးရဲ႕ ေရေ၀ေရလဲ ေဘးႏွစ္ဘက္ေတာင္ေၾကာေတြရဲ့ အေရာင္စံုေနတဲ့ အလွေတြကို ဆည္ႀကီးထဲမွာ သေဘၤာႀကီးစီးၿပီး ေလွ်ာက္ၾကည့္ဖို႕ ဓာတ္ပံုရိုက္ဖို႕အတြက္ ဘယ္သူမဆို သြားလည္ခ်င္ၾကမွာပဲ။

Two Schools for Raising Kids

There are two school of thoughts concerning the nurture of my little girl, Panpwintlay. These can be labeled as "Action School" and "Monitor School".

The Action School
The action school suggests that the more the parents and teachers push the student, the brighter the student will be. They know the talent of my girl, and how we (parents) let her spend most of her time under her own management. Giving such a smart girl a plenty of free time without supervising and without forcing to do paper work of the school lessons, they assume, do not help improvement of her class performance. Since there are much room left for the advancement of her schooling, then the parents should bother about it. Almost all her teachers, and some parents of her friends believe in this school of thought. They might want to blame us for not providing the girl as it should be, and they feel frustrated for our ignorance of extra tuition and other supplementary.

The Monitor School
The second one is different from it. The monitor school suggests that a child should not be pushed all the time. They should enjoy their free time and they should be able to manage their stuff as much as they can. Raising up a child as it is is the best way for their all-round development. The monitor school encourages the parents and teachers to value the freedom of a child. A child should have enough time to sleep, to play, to think, to talk about anything they are interested in, and to manage themselves because everything a child is doing is learning and preparing for the whole life. Moreover, the freedom of a child could foster creativity and analytical skills which are the most important factors for today's global education system. This school discourages stealing time from the child and encourage the parents and teachers just to help the kids what they are interested in. "Just monitor and assist them in their own stuff" is the slogan of the second school.

We believe in the second school of thought and it works well so far. We are satisfied with the talent and performance of the girl. Although we don't know exactly which school of thought provides better philosophy for nurturing my girl, we confidently choose the second one.
So far so good.

When the column of the long range penetration exercise conducted by the final year cadets gets back to the campus, the wards of each guardian family welcome their big brothers. It is one of the most memorable moments which tightens the sentimental attachment between and among the seniors and juniors at the Defence Services Academy. This photo brings me back to my cadet life between late 1990s and early 2000s. The esprit de corps was once born in our alma mater and it lasts forever.

Food Pyramid

My eight years old daughter always takes care of food pyramid since she has been taught about it and understood well. Occasionally if not often, their lunch boxes are checked at school and awarded for balance diet that motivates them to push their parents for proper lunch box preparation. It attracts the parents’ awareness of the importance of the balance among the three types of nutritions, food for growth, food for protection and food for energy.

This piece of paper was found on the floor of my room near the door yesterday evening when I got back. Actually IUJ email is the official channel of communication among the members of IUJ community including students, staff, student councils, teachers and the local supporting teams. However such a way of communication is also occasionally practiced for attracting special attention of the fellows.

This is the first event of Nakayama Houses for this academic year. The house system was launched last year and still struggling to institutionalize in the student community since almost half of the students (most second year students) are more accustomed to the existing TEAM system which is the groupings among the likes students voluntarily.

UNaccountability

Myanmar delegate proposed a broader meaning of accountability. It reads "accountability should mean taking responsibility for one's actions. Accountability must apply equally to ALL. Individuals, organizations, national governments as well as multilateral organizations, must be held responsibility for the consequence of their words and actions." This proposal was followed by the reiteration of Myanmar's rejection and serious concern over the report of FFM.

we get what we deserve

. . . it is very hard to understand why Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who has taken an unconstitutional post called "state counsellor" and the minister of the two ministries including MOFA, and put herself in the state protocol between the president and the two vice-presidents has chosen NOT to go to the UNGA. In my understanding, she is the only government official who should lead the delegation to the UN to make use of the UN podium as a tool to amplify the voice of Myanmar in order to defend and counter-attack the "POST-TRUTH" putting pressure on Myanmar's sovereignty. She still possesses indispensable personality although her charisma has been sharply declining internationally since her incumbency. The defacto government head of Myanmar was once the great hope of her supporters for the bright future of the nation, and even non-supporters had a reluctant expectation on her capacity. Unfortunately, we get what we deserve. We have got a weak government which has very few capability for the development of the nation in almost every aspect. She was so courageous enough to withstand the oppression of the military regime but she is too coward to preserve dignity of the nation in international arena.
.
however, it is not a hopeless situation. There is also the bright side of the current polity. Some advantages could be taken. First, the NLD could learn an important lesson that taking the driver seat of the government is not as unaccountable and unresponsible as insulting and gossiping the incumbent government as an opposition. Second, the NLD supporters and some anti-military-regime-people could come to understand the difference between a charismatic politician and a smart statesman.

Otherwise, . . .
we will get what we still deserve.

The two Supreme Commanders of Myanmar and the United States made the same claim concerning the sovereignty of their own nations coincidently within three days.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Tatmadaw (defence services) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and the President of the United States Donald Trump reportedly stressed on the self-determination of their sovereignty in their speeches.
.
Myanmar Army Chief said that any country, organization, alliance or group has no right to intervene the sovereignty of a particular nation since every state has their own value on 23rd September in Lashow. He might want to refer to such entities that are continuously trying to put pressure on Myanmar government and the Army concerning the campaign in the Rakhine State.

The US President said that they would never surrender (the) America’s sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable, global bureaucracy referring to the attempt of ICC to investigate alleged U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan. He said that in the speech of the 73rd UNGA before the leaders, ambassadors and delegations of the world community members on September 25.

Currently, both nations are facing threat of the ICC although none of them is member of the court. The two nations have the same voice as the court does not have jurisdiction on non-members like Myanmar and the US.

Free Smart Phone Service

I have never expected that a hotel would facilitate a free smartphone with unlimited internet access and free oversea call to some particular countries. Moreover the guests are also allowed to bring the phone anywhere they go during their stay at the hotel. I experienced such facility in the 2018 Nagasaki field trip at the Wing Port Hotel where we stayed a couple of nights.

Reiteration

The NLD government mission mentioned in the report to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw by minister U Kyaw Tint Swe is not new but a "fine tuning" of what the NLD has campaigned in 2012 by-elections. In 2012, the NLD campaigned on three issues: rule of law, reconciliation and constitutional change. Socioeconomic development of the people is added to the previous outline in the "government mission".
